Pool service in Volusia and Flagler: cost, repairs and green water

What weekly pool service costs in Florida, who can repair a pump or heater, what to do when the pool turns green after rain, and the safety rules for new pools.

Updated 2026-10-10

Most pool owners here use a weekly service, and sooner or later need a repair. These are often different companies, so it helps to know what you're hiring for.

What weekly service costs

Weekly pool service in Florida runs about $75–$200 a month (2025). One Volusia company publishes its own prices: $175 a month for a screened pool, $195 unscreened and $145 for chemicals only (2026). Screened vs unscreened, size and whether chemicals are included move the price.

Repairs need a licensed pool contractor

Routine cleaning and chemical balancing of a home pool doesn't need a state contractor license. Repairing or replacing equipment, such as a pump, does: that work needs a pool/spa contractor or pool/spa servicing contractor licensed by DBPR. Check the license on the license lookup before they start.

Green after heavy rain

Summer storms add a lot of rainwater, which dilutes the chlorine. Test the water, shock it, brush the walls and run the pump. If it won't clear, call your pool service.

Building a new pool

A new pool needs a building permit, and before it passes final inspection Florida requires at least one safety feature: a barrier at least 4 feet high, an approved safety cover, exit alarms on doors and windows to the pool, self-closing and self-latching doors, or an approved pool alarm.
